Second International Conference of theSociety for Economic Measurement was held
July 22-24, 2015 at the
OECD Conference Center, Paris, France.
| Following the Society for Economic Measurement (SEM)’s highly successful Inaugural Conference at the University of Chicago in August 2014, the 2nd International Conference was hosted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris. The Program Committee consisted of all organizers of proposed invited sessions. In addition to the society’s regular sponsors, the University of Kansas, the Center for Financial Stability, and Carnegie Mellon University, there were some local Paris sponsors for this conference. |  |
| The inaugural conference allocated 90 minutes to parallel sessions. The second conference increased that allocation to 2 hours. In addition, a room for poster sessions accommodated contributed papers. The inaugural conference included over 150 registered speakers, with over 200 participating in the Paris conference. During its inaugural year, the society’s membership had grown to over 600 and is continuing to grow rapidly. As with the inaugural conference, the Paris conference included eight plenary sessions — five keynote lectures (one in honor of the late, great Hirofumi Uzawa), a plenary dinner speaker, an opening remarks greeting, and a presidential address.Special Purpose Lectures Paul Schreyer, Deputy Director, OECD Statistics Directorate (Welcoming Address) William A. On July 4, the program was sent to the printer, with any papers for which the presenter had not registered removed, and all information about meals provided to the caterers. The negotiated rates should be compared with the hotels’ online rates and other reservation sources. The differences can be large. In some cases, the OECD rate is far below the hotel’s online rate. But in other cases, the hotel’s own online rate can be far below the OECD rate, such as for the Hyatt Regency Etoile, which is a four star hotel at a 30 minute walk from the OECD. In contrast the very conveniently located Passy-Eiffel Hotel offers a large discount through its OECD negotiated rate, but a somewhat larger discount through Hotels.com.
